in honor of peter albert todd, poet
I’ll tell you of a gentle, common man,
Kissed by the Spirit, blessed with such a gift
To craft with words a picture, clear and bright,
To help us all to learn, as best we might,
About our Gloucester heritage. Behold -
A self-made man, self-taught, but often wise
Beyond his years. Simple and clean his life;
His faith a steady bulwark, strong and true.
He serves with steadfast honor in the Lodge
And in his outside dealings all those who
Meet with him find him honest to the end;
He never met a man he would not call a friend.
To him who tells our tales I dedicate
This humble poem – written out with love -
To thank him for the many years he’s spent
In counseling others, loyal to us all.
Long may he live and write the things he sees,
Sing out the songs of ships, and days of old,
Of family ties, of forefathers so bold
Who built our city strong enough to stand
The test of time. All these things soon spring forth,
In language clear, from out his poet’s mind;
He captures visions from our yesterday
That we might not forget our storied past.
So here’s to you, Pete Todd, the best of men -
God’s blessings on your life, and on your pen!
With fond memories and Rainbow love –
